PELVIC FLOOR STRENGTH & SEXUAL HEALTH: WHAT THE STUDY FOUND

TL;DR

You’ve probably heard of Ozempic or Mounjaro — the so-called miracle weight-loss Women with pelvic floor problems who had stronger pelvic floor muscles were more likely to be sexually active and scored higher on orgasm questions. This shows a link, not proof of cause and effect.

What Was Studied

Researchers looked at 585 women (average age ~55) who had pelvic floor disorders.

They measured pelvic floor muscle strength and tone, then checked sexual activity and survey scores.

Key Findings (Simple)

  • Stronger muscles = more sexual activity. About 75% of women with stronger pelvic floors were sexually active vs ~62% with weaker muscles. After adjusting for other factors, stronger muscles still predicted sexual activity (odds ratio ≈ 1.9).

  • Among sexually active women, stronger muscles were linked with better sexual function scores, including the orgasm domain of a standard survey.

  • Muscle tone alone (too tight/too loose) was not clearly linked to being sexually active. See the results

What This Means (Plain Language)

Having strong pelvic floor muscles is connected with being more sexually active and reporting better sexual function. This doesn’t prove that strength causes better sex—other factors may be involved.

Safe, Simple Training Ideas

(General wellness tips — not medical advice.)

  • Practice breathing + gentle pelvic floor squeezes, then fully relax each time.

  • Do 8–12 light reps, holding 3–5 seconds, a few times per week.

  • Pair with core moves (bird dog, dead bug, side plank) and good posture.

  • If you have pain, heaviness, or leaks, see a pelvic floor physical therapist before starting.
These ideas align with how clinicians teach pelvic floor care and the study’s focus on muscle strength. Study link.

Who This Applies To

The findings are about women with pelvic floor disorders. They may not apply to everyone, but they show why pelvic floor strength can matter for many women’s sexual well-being. Check the cohort details
